550713d4ad9f0.preview-620Erwin D. Cornelius, 78, of Bloomington, died at 6:15 a.m. Saturday (March 14, 2015) at Heartland Health Care Center in Normal.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment will immediately follow the service at Hudson Township Cemetery.

Erwin was born Sept. 10, 1936, in Melvin, son of Clarence B. and Ferne Zebarth Cornelius. He married Leila K. Andres on June 1, 1957, in Hudson.

Surviving are his wife, Leila, of Bloomington; two sons, Don (Michelle) Cornelius, Normal, and Kevin (Denise) Cornelius, Lexington; four grandchildren, Devin, Evan, Donnie and Elena Cornelius; and one great-grandson, Mason Cornelius.

Erwin was preceded in death by his parents and twin granddaughters, Emma K. and Anna K. Cornelius. He was also preceded in death by his four-legged, faithful friend, his Boston terrier, Oscar.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Erwin retired in 2004 after a long career at CDI Corp. in Peoria, where he worked as a design engineer and was an inventor of 11 of their patents. He also enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.
