Anna Downen died suddenly this week.  Her life will be celebrated with a visitation on Saturday 1-4pm.  We extend sympathies to Stephen, Stephanie and Mary Ann.


Anna K. Downen, 59, of Normal, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 24, 2017) at her home.

Her celebration of life visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

Anna was born Sept. 8, 1957, in Bloomington, the daughter of Phillip and Ruth Ann Potter Emery. She married Stephen Downen on Nov. 25, 1979, in Bloomington. He survives.

She is also survived by a daughter, Stephanie Downen, River Forest; a grandson, Kaleb Downen, and his mother, Ashley Downen, of Washington; her parents, Phillip and Ruth Ann Emery, Bloomington; her mother-in-law, Mary Ann Downen, Bloomington; and two brothers, Phillip Emery, Mackinaw, and Tim Emery, Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Downen, and her father-in-law, A. Wayne Downen.

Anna graduated from Bloomington High School. She was a cook at the Parkview Inn for many years, owned and operated the Velvet Freeze in Normal and was a Realtor for Brady Realty for many years. Anna was an active volunteer during her children’s school years. She loved her pets and feeding the birds.

Anna will be remembered as the nicest person we knew. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend who will be dearly missed.
